Narcolepsy

WHAT IS NARCOLEPSY?

Narcolepsy is a chronic autoimmune neurological sleep disorder that involves poor control of sleep-wake cycles.

People With Narcolepsy (PWN) experience periods of extreme daytime sleepiness (EDS) and sudden, irresistible sleep attacks that can strike at any time and usually last a few seconds to several minutes.
EDS is the main symptom and other primary symptoms of narcolepsy include:

Cataplexy – loss of muscle tone triggered by emotion.
Hypnagogic Hallucinations – distorted perceptions of very vivid dreams.
Sleep Paralysis – inability to move or talk right before sleeping or during waking up.

Other symptoms include disturbed nocturnal sleep and automatic behavior while awake.

All of these symptoms may be present in various combinations and degrees of severity.
Narcolepsy can effect daily activities enormously when people fall asleep while at school, work,
in the middle of a conversation or operating any machinery.
There are many websites on internet to educate you more about Narcolepsy.
There are many initiatives, both online and offline to raise awareness.
This website isn’t about those subjects.
This is about helping PWN that are suffering from all mental consequences.
Losing your job, your drivers license, possibly your home, being isolated from social life and family.
Not everyone, while lacking energy, can solve this on their own.
These people need help to get their life back on track. You could be part of that.
